A Suécia quer estabelecer uma base lunar até 2011 !
Nem todos sabem, mas a sonda europeia SMART-1 que orbita a Lua foi construída pela Suécia. Esta sonda - actualmente a única sonda que orbita o nosso satélite natural - foi contudo apenas a primeira iniciativa sueca em direcção à Lua...O cientista sueco Niklas Järvstråt e a SMART-Centre (responsável pela construção da SMART-1) reuniram um consórcio internacional para transformar os planos de Järvstråt em realidade. Este consórcio já agrupa mais de cinquenta entidades diferentes desde a Shimizu Corporation japonesa à Orbitech, um fornecedor americano da NASA e várias instituições de ensino francesas e britânicas.
O plano consiste na construção de uma colónia onde homens, mulheres e crianças possam viver independentemente do afluxo contínuo de mantimentos da Terra, retirando as suas necessidades do solo lunar e transformando-os de forma a suprir de forma completamente autónoma todas as suas necessidades.
O trabalho de pesquisa irá começar no segundo quarto de 2006 e deverá estar concluído até 2011 devendo então estar pronta a planta de uma instalação de transformação autosuficiente das matérias primas lunares. Durante este período de cinco anos o SMART-Centre procurará expandir o consórcio e obter fontes de financiamento do projecto.
A fonte energética principal serão reactores de fusão de Hélio-3.
